Stoves can be easily self-installed but you need building control approval (which is easily done). You may wish to have your stove installed by a Hetas registered installer in which case you do not need building control approval. more information on stove installation.
The top plate normally goes underneath the chimney pot and closes off teh gap between the chimney liner and the sides of the chimney. The top plate is not designed to take the weight of the liner so make sure that the top clamp is either under the plate or that the legs of the clamp bear onto solid masonry under the plate.
